Animal rescue in Tunisia

We are currently building up a network of helpers and supporters in Tunisia. Life for dogs and cats in this beautiful African country is particularly difficult. There are no state animal shelters or volunteer vets. We distribute food and water bowls as well as vouchers for dog and cat food. The vouchers are then redeemed free of charge by our local helpers in our partner pet stores - all thanks to your donations.

Cats in Islam

Cats are considered clean creatures in Islamic countries. The Prophet loved cats. His favorite cat was called Muezza. Cats therefore deserve to be treated well. However, this fails because many people lack the necessary money to feed or sterilize cats. There is also a lack of vets and medication.

To the photo:  Animal lovers in Tunisia are trying to save cats and their babies with the simplest of means. Here, a cat house was improvised from cardboard boxes and plastic sheeting to protect the babies from heat and rain. This is not always tolerated by the authorities and the cat houses are then destroyed.

Dogs in Islam

The relationship with dogs is complicated in Islamic countries. Some Islamic scholars prohibit the keeping of dogs. In tourist regions, dogs are often shot by police officers. This is to protect tourists from stray and hungry dogs, especially on the beaches.

To the photo: Dogs fare particularly badly in Tunisia. Due to a lack of money and food, they can only be fed with waste. The dogs suffer from diseases and malnutrition. That's why they are often beaten to death.

Our helpers on site

It is only thanks to the many volunteers and supporters on the ground that we can alleviate the greatest need. Without them and without your donations, none of this would be possible. Thank you very much for this.

What happens to your donations?

We use your donations to buy food and water bowls and animal feed. Our local helpers and supporters distribute the food and water bowls in front of guarded stores, hotels, private homes, etc. They also ensure that the food and water bowls are filled regularly.

We also distribute prepaid food vouchers, which our helpful supporters (store owners, hotel staff, private individuals, etc.) can then redeem free of charge in our partner petshops.
